Cleveland Critical Mass December Ride

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Cleveland Critical Mass December Ride
Friday, December 30, 2011 – 7pm

Join us for Cleveland Critical Mass on Friday, December 30. We begin meeting in the southwest quadrant of Public Square at 6:30pm, then leave at 7pm to ride bikes. CCM happens this and every last Friday of the month regardless of snow, ice, cold, or rain. (However, rule of thumb is that, the nastier the weather, the shorter the ride.)

This month’s ride will conclude at Mitzi Jerman’s Cafe, 3840 St. Clair Avenue in Asiatown. If you haven’t been, Mitzi’s is a legendary bar with cheap drinks, an amazing jukebox, and a lot of character, and has been recognized as one of America’s greatest dive bars by Playboy and Esquire.

Photographer and CCM regular Frank Lanza would like to take a shot of CCM this month with the Cleveland skyline in the background. His vision is for it to become viral so that other cities can see that bikes are what’s hip in Cleveland.

November 2011 Ride

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

The next Cleveland Critical Mass ride takes place Friday, November 25. We begin meeting in the southwest quadrant of Public Square at 6:30pm, then leave at 7pm to ride bikes for a while. The ride happens this and every last Friday of the month regardless of weather.

This month’s ride will conclude in the Gordon Square Arts District around West 65th and Detroit. Details will be posted here sometime in the middle of next week, so please check back.

Also, this is the day after Thanksgiving, and any family, friends, or guests in town for the holiday are welcome to join the mass.

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

This month’s ride will have no predetermined bar/restaurant destination, so it’s up to those hearty bicyclists who ride to select someplace to end. Please feel free to do that on the event page or before/during the ride.

If you’re on Facebook, please confirm your attendance here.  And if you haven’t already, please join the Cleveland Critical Mass group!

Happy holidays, everyone!

Cleveland Critical Mass Halloween Ride

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

Cleveland Critical Mass Halloween Ride
Friday, October 29, 2010 – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Meet at Public Square, Downtown

Cleveland Critical Mass hits the streets again Friday, October 29. We’ll meet at Public Square beginning at 6pm, rain or shine, then depart promptly at 6:30pm for what will likely be the last large mass until April.

This month, CCM is celebrating Halloween! Costumes are encouraged, but certainly not required. Deck your ride with lights and Halloween decorations, if you’d like. Let’s make this one of the best rides Cleveland has ever seen and put on one hell of a bicycle parade! Bring your friends, too!

Look for details of where the ride will conclude for food and drink in the coming weeks. However, if you have a great idea in mind or have a connection to an establishment downtown or on the Near West Side that can host and offer specials, please share below.

And while October spells the probable end of the prime CCM riding season, the plan is to continue to book CCM events through the winter. So rides will continue to be posted for those of you willing to brave the cold and snow. Even if winter riding isn’t your thing, everyone is encouraged to come out to the ending destination to catch up and have a drink with CCM people they’ve met throughout the year and meet new like-minded individuals!

Lastly, all participants are requested to review and become familiar with the CCM guiding principles on the about page of the CCM website.  Give respect and be courteous to pedestrians and motorists, keep the mass together for solidarity (meaning the bicyclists leading the group should ride around 12 mph pace!), and celebrate bicycles and Cleveland!

Confirm your attendance on Facebook here.

Update on the CCM September Ride

Friday, September 24th, 2010

CCM rolls on tonight, rain or shine! The weather outlook has improved in our favor, so come without reservations. We depart from Public Square promptly at 6:30pm.

Again, the plan is for the group to walk bicycles through Ingenuity as the grand finale to tonight’s ride. Afterward, it’s up to you whether you’d like to stick around the festival for a while, then head to ABC the Tavern or just head over to ABC to hang with new and existing CCM friends.

Lastly, this may be the biggest ride yet, and let’s make it the best. That means ensuring that everyone remains safe; being courteous to motorists, pedestrians, and other bicyclists; and keeping the ride at a pace at which everyone is included and the mass remains together in unity.

See you tonight!

Cleveland Critical Mass September Ride

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Join hundreds of other bicyclists for Cleveland Critical Mass on Friday, September 24. We’ll begin meeting in the southwest quadrant of Public Square at 6pm, then depart promptly at 6:30pm for a gigantic bicycle parade throughout the streets of the Sixth City.

This month’s ride will end in two locations: Ingenuity Festival and ABC the Tavern. After riding until 8 or 8:30pm, CCM will make an appearance at Ingenuity beneath the Veterans Memorial Bridge. In the interest of safety, the plan is for us to walk our bikes as a group from one side of the bridge to the other to demonstrate to festival goers that bicycles belong and have a place in Cleveland. Choose to stay at Ingenuity as long as you’d like, then make your way to ABC the Tavern on West 25th Street, which has graciously extended happy hour specials on fifteen beers all evening long for CCM bicyclists.

In the next few weeks, stay tuned for details on the CCM Halloween ride and end-of-the-season celebration.

Lastly, all participants are requested to review and become familiar with the CCM guiding principles on the about page of the CCM website.  Give respect and be courteous to pedestrians and motorists, keep the mass together for solidarity, and celebrate bicycles and Cleveland!

Reminder: August CCM this Friday!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Just a reminder that the latest Cleveland Critical Mass ride will take place this Friday. We’re anticipating more than 250 bicyclists will enjoy riding Cleveland streets en masse, stellar company, and beautiful weather (a clear evening with temps in the 70s).

We’ll end this month’s ride at Sunset Grille on Whiskey Island. Come hang, meet new people, and celebrate the final ride of the summer season! Bring fun things to do on Whiskey Island, such as frisbees or footballs, or just yourself to enjoy with others.

If there’s a volunteer who would be willing to lead riders who are driving to Public Square back there after the ride so that they can pick up their vehicles and meet us at Sunset Grille, please post in the comments below.

We have plenty of stickers to hand out, so grab a few to display on your bike, bodies, street signs, or anywhere else! Get there early before they’re out.

Spread the word and bring your friends! See everyone at Public Square at 6pm Friday!
